Thanks biggie for that one. It has summarized my current state of mind. My son is due any day now. In fact he is a little overdue but I can't complain about him wanting to be a libra. We da best! So any day I will become a dad and have me a little libra to teach about fashion and balance.
In the meantime Karen and I fend off questions from co-workers, soon to be grandparents, and friends eagerly ready to enduct Karen into the mommy club. It's been pretty hair raising at times but it's all coming from excitement and love so we don't complain.
I have finally done all my cutting and customizig and have a pair if new valos to rock. I'm pretty stoked they have live up to the hype and I see myself riding Valo for a while. Blading has been a great source of exercise and fun recenty with some new tricks added to the docket and some others still casuong frustration. I think today is a practie day. I need to get past this plateua I'm currently stuck at. I have a pair that is not perfect. The art of cutting valos is well documented and the techniques growing. Too me it feels like 1999 when you had to do this with less option. Somehow the options now are overwelmingly lackluster yet numerous. As I sift through finding amazing products in the wrong aplication. Tonight though I'm getting aggressive. Taking some boots apart and making some cuts. Should be exciting. Hopefully I can find the right mix. Thanks to Valo and Trust. Their products are amazing and I hope to find the best combination o cutting and comfort.

Full of blog

This is it. This is the month when my son is to be born. I'm actually in my first week of doing the mornin ritual alone. Karen is finally done with work, until January but thts no time soon. I on the othe hand, have to wait for the call. Then like the flash will bolt home to support the entrance of Coltrane Elan Scott into the world. Pretty exciting stuff in the end. Plus I haven't taken consecutive days off from work in 7 months. So it's time to be home. Thank you California paid family leave act. We actually give poppa more rights than the French.
On some lesser news, My Valo experience has been very challenging. Finding comfort will be the ultimate hurdle but grinding and solid skating has been a prime benefit. So far breaking in my trusts has been painful. Pain on the outside of my foot. A New footbed hasn't provided much relief either. The experiment is going to the next step though. I have some new boots to cut and hve been devising schemes to isolate problem areas.
Football, so you think you can dance and school all start right now. I know this very well. It feeds our plants, warms our days, but the true secret is vitamin D. Recently I learned that Americans don't get enough sun. I know sometimes I get none. Apparently 20 minutes in the sun errday is enough. I've been working in a basement office for two years and fully unserdatnd the concept of no sun. I don't understand how my plant can survive on just florecent bulbs. But back to the point. As I take my lunch in a sunny SF before transitioning back to job número UNO I am soaking in the sun. Coltrane, as our baby boy has been called is has become the inspiration for finishing our bedroom. This is the last space of to-do lists and spray painting projects. First things first we have lived in this place for a year and have had no full length mirror, how crazy. It's like having really no idea what you look like and just diving out into public with magenta and pin clashing all over the place. I dont really wear those two colors often but got forbid in this low mood lighting I confuse red and orange or wear blue socks with black pants. All very terrible fates indeed.
So Coltrane got us to put up a mirror, get a new/safer bed with storage - all be it too tall for our space but manageable and changeable. Ikea is extremely versatile in that respect and I have become a pretty good hacker of its flat packed madness.
Back to my little man on the way. Karen is growing and we have begun preparing, diappering class, and now 5 more weeks of childbirthing class. The real deal though has been setting up his room. We dont have much space but a 48sqft. walk in closet has become his own personal area. Blasted Ikea Lack shelves, fixing tons of holes in the walls from the previous owner and finding the right color were our challenges.
The big unveiling was this weekend as we had friends over for the 4th. Our little room was a huge success and at one point I really was hanging in there forgetting it was ever a closet. So as we progress through week 29 and I consider creating a real web page with a nice HTML layout.

Week 29:

Folk dancing in downtown Oakland

So what gives... I just left work and white folks dancing to a fiddle have taken over. How is the same place where protests of police brutality, Eco fairs and rampant mid day blunt smoke usually take place? Planners really got this space right, can you say thesis. How public spaces can be racially and rythmically diverse: downtown Oakland Mecca? The real question is what the hell am I doing just leaving work at 8:30PM?
Either way you slice it the answer doesn't matter at least it's still light out a little and hopefully not too cold in SF, I brought no jacket.
Wait, how are white people so comfortable in downtown Oakland so close to dusk? I mean seriously they were folk dancing. It's interesting what is conventional logic, it is assumed I will gain weigh during this pregnancy. I'm apparently supposed to call my food baby a name too. How do I know its gender? We will soon know our little one's gender, yay. May 4th, time is flying and this date which seemed light-years away is fast approaching, and Karen is beginning to show. My friends Scott and Maria had their baby today...so excited for them. They had a girl named Kayla, in fact I haven’t gotten confirmation as of yet but a c-section was order a few hours ago, so I can only assume everything is done by now and Maria is put back together nicely. Cesareans scare the piss out of, the fact that all of Karen's guts could get taken out and then "put back in" is more than just gross and disturbing. We are heavily leaning towards a home birth and will hopefully get the medical ok when we see our doc and baby next. If you are pregnant, squeamish or just thinking about having children I recommend "the business of birthing" or something like that. Eye opener type documentary which shows more home births than I could almost stomach. Actually my stomach got better at watching this miraculous event but I’m not sure I can ever look at Karen the same again. I mean really, as guys we take the vagina for granted and even worse as commodity. In fact it's an amazingly scary place where life will one day just plop out...like I said,. I will never look at it the same again. Madness, I spoke of two presentations last Thursday well today I have to hand in two papers. I mean C'mon, what the hell, I'm trying to set up a new media center, home theatre options and start the apartment Therapy 8-week house cure, when am I supposed to write two papers. Then I get even more distracted by Monday's trip to the doc and the shwoosh, swoorsh or my little babies heat, I mean I remained stalwart but was really moved, it's all pretty incredible. Karen is having many other feelings attached to this process but I think its simply amazing what hormones can tell your body what to do. We wonder why our friends sometimes go overboard when on some "good shit".
In Mac Mini news, Plex has been working phenomonally, Im not sure it will replace itunes for my music but perhaps I will figure this last littel hurdle out. alos the applications store never works for me, or I dont like waiting for it to connect to the server. There are great apps for the Daily Show and Colbert Report but I ahve yet to have a chance to experiment with them. Dmeonid however has helped a lot and we just watched our first episodes of Dexter...wow! Cable TV is such a sham, when I can get great TV - and I know I jsut watched some ish from like forever ago - for free, Im not even tripping. That pilot was amazing, if you dont know about Dexter get on, hotness. Im waiting for my new RAM to get delivered and for spring break so I can rewire and switch up the entertainment situation, I put together the new furniture. It was like Ikea but made of wood, I mean exactly like, even down to the one part that hasnt completely come back together perfectly yet. Thanks to some clarification on message boards I have finally learned how to set up most of my Home Theater PC (which is so hard for me to call my sleek mac mini set up). Today I got it all figured out, even watched some Hulu, a little Underworld 3 and America's Best Dance Crew just to test it out. Very successful day. Also yesterday after two presentations I realized how to get our new 6'7" monster of an entertainment center up the stairs. Now something I was just beginning to dread can almost be accomplished by one person. As Plex scans the 175 GBs of music that I have stored and Karen settles into hopefully a restful, revitalizing slumber I thank the universe for weekends.

The Struggle Continues

So I am still trying to get this mac mini HTPC set-up finalized. So far so good, Comcast changed our service, and we still get all the basic cable channels through the EYeTV Hybrid and the joy of clear QAM. I thought I would have to live a life of ironing to Sportscenter online but technology has solved that little puzzle. Yay, thank goodness too. I cant front, I miss the HD ESPN but for $100 bucks a month less I’m not complaining. Still working out the recording kinks and so far all my recordings have filled my poor mini's hard drive and wont send to the external HD but through the use of my new favorite tool - the alias - I am sure all will be rectified shortly.

Speaking of Alias', in case you are using an external HD for all your pictures and music, you can create an alias in the local folders so that new imports go where they are supposed to and so it will always find your stuff - no more exclamation points. Create an alias of the networked location to the natural location and you're done. for me it included adding this alias in the itunes music local folder so that it would stop importing CD's there. No I don’t have to consolidate my music or go searching for the database. It always finds it, oh jeah!

Back to my HTPC and the settling process. I have recently downloaded a bunch of ABDC from the past two seasons but cannot get it to load into Plex correctly. For some reason Plex is a very hard program to get going, some find it easy but I’m having so much trouble. Anyone know apple strings? I don’t. In between preparing for 2 presentations this Thursday and 2 papers due next week I am trying to figure this Plex non sense out. Its giving me a headache.

These headaches are gone in the morning however, thanks to some great sleep I have been having on our new Eco-Cloud mattress. Going organic was expensive but has paid off. I sleep better, breathe (and snore) easier and have been feeling rested upon my alarm’s 5AM cry. Of course now it's hard to get out of bed for an entirely different reason.

Vimeo is hot with the homies

I should actually have like three clips in this video.
All shot from like 2005-2008, its a JSF project, act like you know!
Still Having Fun trailer from JSF on Vimeo.

On the same note, my boy V is blowing up the internet with his latest creation.
I know he secretly has worked on this forever. In fact they are the only ones who can put in new cable lines underground so its pretty much a done deal. We have been trying to get off their bandwagon for some years but there is no other option. After calling everyone and having no luck, I found Astound Cable and Internet. Available in SF and possibly saving us $100 a month, OMG, sign me up, draw my blood. Not so fast, of course they are not available in our house, great. Stuck with Comcast and no way to save money I decided just to ditch cable all together.

Armed with enough moxy to tell the Comcast customer service that our relationship was done I called to make the break up official. Secretly, I had already purchased the elgato EYETV Hybrid tuner for my Mac mini and was poised to create an entertainment center around it. It was debated weather the dictator would be able to shut off basic cable while still delivering Internet service. When I finally got on the line with the dictator's henchmen I was taken aback by the great service I was receiving. Almost blindly I wildly attacked with mis-guided and directed questions and poor math. It was almost too crazy to believe. In the end I walked away with faster Internet and basic cable for the same price I was looking for, saving almost $100 a month. Wow.

Now I’ve got my PVR hooked into my computer and any show I save can be watched on my iphone and our savings this year should allow us to go (with Charlie) to France to see the Tharingers.

Posting without pics

So far I have only posted when I have pictures to show. But the truth is I have a ton of pictures but I would rather just post, so that’s what I’m doing. I’m changing my philosophy on this whole damn thing and it’s time to just post and post and post. In fact this is all probably jealousy because Karen is more amped about someone else’s blog than our own. It’s apparent this space needs more content so here we go.

Things are progressing fast in the Scott household, but others remain the same. I will never get around to swiffering our floor. It’s been on my "to do" list before iPhones. Some day it will happen and Karen will be so happy with me. Our place looks so much better clean than dirty, open floor plans are great for that, it’s like any clutter is instantly magnified. We have been re-assessing everything as we prepare for the baby we are affectionately calling "Charlie". We both think it will be a girl in which case the name will stay, go figure. So many things have already gone its pretty impressive. Still on the list are some old comics (missed the comic book convention), my entire CD collection and other random items. It’s been a pretty impressive nesting process.

My entire CD collection by the way has gone itunes, I would say digital but it was already digital. In stead its gone intangible, filling up less space than it ever has thank you terra bite. Plus no more skipping songs thanks to a certain trip to Miami by one French fry and a whole lot of sand. Next up is the TV, already digital, but going cheaper and directly through the computer. Terra bites again coming to the rescue as a sweet PVR. The Mac mini serves as an awesome media center if anyone is looking for an alternative to Comcast in San Francisco, I will be bloggin my adventures without cable...sigh..!

Quads, Baby!

Last night we celebrated. It was a rounsing afair in the ever so empty Yerba Buena bowling alley. Why would you discontinue a great propmotion on Mondays to have an empty alley now pretty much everyday a week. So sad. Cool hole in the wall, with potential, right in the heart of the city but, I bet it closes sooner than later. We were celebrating many things last night. Our dear friend Tara has started a new chapter in her life. A much needed change was coming for her and se has accepted it and we are so happy for her. Omn our end - We are Pregnant - woo hoo! Yay Im gonna be a da. so excited, a little scared but mainly excited. Life's changing and '09 is sweeping in like the Chicago wind. We have known for a littel bit as Karen in 7 weeks along now but have chosen to keep it our little secret until now. With a uneventful and a little bit dissapointing trip to the doctors, or as we found out, prenatal clerk behind us we decided to spread the news. You would be surprised how many people dont answer their phones. I know I dont sometimes but man when you want to talk to a lot of people you can only reach a few. We did get to reach our parents, a very excited bunch. My mom's reaction "you better start mediating", Daniella "what names have you picked out?" all very funny reactions. Danni Im sure will be hapy to visit a grandchild on this continent. California has just gotten closer for them and we are looking forward to their visits.

I bowled a quad bagger I was so juiced

Why do Men in clogs bother me so much?

Over the week we preconfigured a new carpet for our living room. I was blessed with a preview of this gift during chrismahanzukwanaka, and finally it was fabricated and ready. Safety re of course was the color of choice, perfect for me, and night time enjoyment, plus as I found out less likely for cars to hit. Bonus points! So ESG and I headed down to Sunnyvale, with plans for later that would be changing and no preparations for transportation of this git. As we pull into Aggressivemall and find this bright red beauty waiting right where it was supposed to be, none other than the enire staff roll up ready for a session on one of their own beauties. A quick trip to Lowes for some zip ties (after Hertel put some serious dremel work to a bucket) and my red p-rail was attached to the roof of ESG's Trooper. Some quick hits on their long angled rail (if you have space this is the one you should get, 24" High) and we were off. The route was slow and long, mostly on El Camino then well played on 101/280 but once we arrived we knew what had to be done. ESG ha to run to work, poor him cus once Peter D showed up we broke that puppy out on the street and went to work breaking it in. The task of breaking this thing in will take some wax and serious skating. Both I have the ability to provide it, thanks Amall for the 4 sticks of wax. After about an hour ESG and Murph showed up and we concluded a really fun a silly 2 hr session of weird falls, lighting fast switchups and hella juiced skating. I love my p-rail, my knees have not yet caught up but I think they too will get on board. Sunday is rest full with tomorrow's Big Poppa class impending, I think these old joints could use the down time!
